Since the foundation in 1887, AEG has built many power plants worldwide, driven by water, gas, coal or nuclear. In the year 1969, AEG and Siemens merged their power plant activities and founded KWU. For control and surveillance we make use of our AEG Transinaut technology. Transinaut is a fully digital, programmable control with integrated protection for Diesel generators as well as gas motor/generator sets. Our Transinaut is is giving service in many plants for years, such as:

  • Industrial power plants
  • Emergency motor/generator sets

Generators for power generation with gas and steam turbines

 

The generator is assembled with a gear and is delivered as one unit. This low-priced and well-engineered 4-pole generators can be run at 1500 rpm at 50 Hz with turbines up to 15 000 rpm.

The flanged-on epicyclical gear only has minor loss and a long running life. Alternator and gear are a complete mounting unit for ready erection. This system is called E-Pack.

The system is available in all common types of protection and cooling.

The advantages of E – Pack:

  • Reduction of interfaces decreases efforts and costs for engineering and construction.
  • High total efficiency
  • Low requirements in space for the system, since generator and gear unit are assembled without offset.
  • No gear foundation, because the gear doesn’t have its own bearing.
  • The delivery of a complete system reduces effort and time for assembly at construction site and results in shorter total delivery times.
  • Generator and gear unit are piped already, only one connection each for oil supply and discharge is required.

10 kV inverter for a 20 MW machine in a pump storage power station. This 6-pulse inverter with intermediate circuit makes it possible to operate the machine during pumping service by means of speed adjustment in primary and secondary control of the line.

Rotating UPS / CPS  plants (Conditioned Power Supply)

The traditional UPS with static battery consists of a rectifier, battery and inverter. The UPS supplies energy in case of power failure for some time from the battery and passes only then the critical load to a diesel generator set for continuous supply. The UPS system needs much room and extensive cooling and the batteries have to be located in an air conditioned room in case of elevated temperatures. This is costly.

 

 

Our diesel-UPS-principle integrates traditional systems in a single concept with clear advantages. The diesel UPS consists of less components lowering the investment and increasing the availability remarkably. The rotating UPS needs less space due to this concept and saves weight. During normal service, the UPS system supplies clean current and works like a line filter. In case of failure of supply of the utility, the diesel starts without delay within a few seconds to rated speed. In between, the alternator together with the inertia and inductive coupling supplies the load. After that, the diesel motor and the alternator take over until the power returns.

We supply new industrial turbines, also as turbo genset up to 50 MVA. For large gas turbine power plants of 100-450 MVA we supply start-up inverters ( LCI ) and static thyristor exciters in compact cabinets. This equipment is also suitable for large hydro power plants.
